” The Patek Philippe Chronograph Ref:5070 was first released at the Basel fair in 1998,”
– Paul Maudsley
The Ref:5070 was the first new chronograph released by Patek Philippe without a calendar function since the original Ref:1463. The Ref:5070 has a central chronograph seconds hand and a 30-minute register at three o’clock. this took collectors by surprise as Patek Philippe had gone almost 30 years without a simple chronograph in its collection.
The 42mm case diameter, made the watch the largest wristwatch created by Patek Philippe since 1950, which now seem quite small to todays watches. It was also the final Patek Philippe chronograph to use the famous Lemania caliber 2310 ébauche, (movement) renamed as the caliber CH 27-70 CHR.
This 18ct yellow gold example, only featured a black dial, which is stunning. The watch is in wonderful condition seeing very little wear over its lifetime. It was sold here in the UK in July 2003, crazy to think it’s over 20 years old. Coming from the original owner and complete with its Patek Philippe deployant clasp, original wooden Patek Philippe box, Certificate of Origin and booklet.
A fine addition to any collection.
