An exceptional Patek Philippe Minute repeating perpetual calendar Ref: 5074J wristwatch from 2002.

” The Patek Philippe Chronograph Ref:5074J was first released at the Basel fair in 2001,”

– Paul Maudsley

A truly magnificent Patek Philippe Minute Repeating Perpetual Calendar Ref: 5074J.  Sourced from the original owner whom purchased the watch in July 2002.

Featuring Cathedral gongs, Moon phases, 24 hour indication and Leap year indication. The Patek Philippe 5074 was first released in 2001 in yellow gold. It was then replaced in 2005 with pink gold followed by platinum in 2009. It is believed that around 40 rose gold examples were ever made and fewer than 25 in yellow gold.

Coming with it Certificate of Origin, wallet, numbered swing tag, wooden box with drawer and Patek Philippe key, solid 18ct gold case back (still retaining factory lacquer) a gold setting pin tool, leather PP strap with 18ct gold PP buckle.  Viewings in London by appointment only.

Minute Repeating Patek Philippe watches are in a league of the own but only a few of the models in the range have “cathedral gongs,” and those are the Sky Moon Tourbillon, Ref:5374, Ref:5178 and on this the Ref:5074.

Cathedral Gongs

A minute repeater compilation operates with three main components; the watchcase, which acts as a resonance chamber; the hammers that strike the gong; and the gongs which give off the sound. The “gongs” of the minute repeater are thin wires that circle the movement. When the two hammers, visible through the case back, strike, they are striking those wires or gongs. A traditional repeater gong circles the movement once, whilst Cathedral Gongs

wrap around the movement with a length equivalent to nearly two circumferences and are thus twice as long as classic ones. The result is a rich tone with a particularly long resonance. (please contact me should you wish to hear the sound)
